GSU students support three new proposed fees

STATESBORO, GA (WTOC) - Georgia Southern University announced the results of students' referendum vote on three new student fees.

Student voted in favor of three fees. Students support a $25 per semester fee that would add 6,000 seats to Paulson Stadium. The project would more than double the 4,000 student seats available now.

They also voted yes to a $75 fee that would help underwrite a move by the football team and other sports to a larger athletic conference and higher level of competition. Proponents have said a step up to Football Bowl Subdivision would increase revenue, visibility, and give players a larger stage to compete.

Students support a $10 fee for sustainability projects to make the campus greener and more environmentally friendly.

However, the students' decision is not binding. The Board of Regents now vote on three new fees for students, which would cost $110.
